ICS-UNIDO has developed a network of national focal points working in the area of
Medicinal and Aromatic Plants (MAPs). Our strategy can be seen in the following
diagram:
The objectives of the NEPs network are:
To assist ICS-UNIDO in its mandate to promote sustainable industrial utilization
of medicinal and aromatic plants in the developing countries by providing scientific
and technical information.
To provide information to developing countries to encourage value addition, quality,
safety and efficacy of plant drugs and production of essential oils.
To help developing countries to get updated information to promote sustainable utilization
of medicinal and aromatic plant resources.
To assist ICS-UNIDO in its initiatives to prepare project proposals and to structure
and to conduct workshops, training courses and other activities in MAPs at national,
regional and international level.
To keep track of the country's status on MAPs resources, raw material production,
trade, marketing situations, technological developments and needs, prevailing regulatory
policies/legislation and IPR concerning MAPs and their products.
