This database of nearly 300 essential oils is a valuable source of information in
particular to entrepreneurs, traders, students and researchers working on essential
oils. For each essential oil the botanical and vernacular names of the source plant
and the origin of the plant material used in the analysis is given.
The graphic display of the gas chromatogram gives the reader a clear impression
of how simple or complex the analysed oil is. The chemical names and the structure
of the major compounds in the oils are also given.
Further information includes reference to earlier work as well as uses of the oils.
The database has been made available to ICS-UNIDO by the African Laboratory for Natural Products (ALNAP), Department
of Chemistry, Addis Ababa University, Ethiopia and Department of Pharmacognosy,
Faculty of Pharmacy, Anadolu University, Eskisehir, Turkey. Suggestions to improve
the database are most welcome.
